I want to tell you about a truly fantastic movie I watched last night. The movie is called Revenge (2018), and the best way I would describe it is it’s a kind of I Spit On Your Grave meets Deliverance story set in the desert. And to draw another analogy in regard to the film’s main protagonist, I would say she is the kind of character who goes from Bimbo to Rambo.
The said protagonist of the movie is a rather sensual young woman called Jen (Matilda Lutz), who is enjoying a romantic getaway with her wealthy boyfriend. Unfortunately, the couple’s intimate liaison is suddenly disrupted when his sleazy friends arrive for an unexpected hunting trip.
The ominous tension starts to build up in the house until the situation abruptly–and viciously–intensifies, culminating in a shocking act that leaves Jen left for dead. But it’s bad news for her assailants, for despite being very close to death after being unceremoniously pushed over a cliff by her villainous turncoat of a lover, Jen survives – and in the most jaw-dropping way imaginable – and comes back with only one thing on her mind: to exact a brutal and bloody revenge.
Although it’s no I Spit On Your Grave, Revenge is still a highly gripping, exciting and entertaining roller coaster ride that will have you hooked till the very end. Matilda Lutz is just fantastic in the role of the violated female avenger. She is one feisty heroine, and you really root for her as she sets about her task of, relentlessly and bravely, pursuing her three repellent antagonists through the vast desert. It’s real edge-of-your-seat stuff, and at times your heart will literally jump into your mouth as sudden setbacks to Matilda’s vengeful mission crop up. And when the deaths finally come, they truly are vicious and bloody. Be prepared for one particular jump-scare scene too, which for me was one of the highlights of the film!
I won’t give any more of the plot away, as I think you should just get this movie yourself and watch it. I guarantee that if you are a fan of such movies as I Spit On Your Grave, then you will love Revenge. And, believe me, “revenge” is most certainly sweet in THIS movie!
